Corporation Standings FAQ

Q: Why are player corporation standings to NPC entity (factions, corporations and agents) important?

A: Player corporation standings control access to Jump Clones and allow corporations to anchor POS in high security systems. They also affect the amount of tax you pay in stations for certain activities.

If your corporation has a standing of +8.00 or greater to an NPC corporation, the NPC corporation has medical clone facilities and you have the Infomorph Psychology skill trained, you are able to install Jump Clones at the NPC corporation stations.

To anchor a POS in high-sec (0.4 to 0.7) systems, your corporation needs to have standings with the relevant faction of 10x the security status of the system. For example, to anchor a POS in +0.6 Caldari space, your corporation requires a Caldari faction standing of at least +6.0. For these purposes the real security status of the system is not considered.

Q: How can I see my corporation's standings?

A: There are a number of ways to check your corporation standings:

1) Open the Corporation panel from your Neo-Com, select the Politics tab then the Standings tab followed by the Liked By / Disliked By sub-tab. On this panel you will see a list of the factions, corporations and agents with which your corporation has standings. Right-clicking on an entity and selecting Show Compositions will display a list of characters with your corporation with an impact on that entity's standing.

2) Open an Info window for an NPC entity, select the Standings tab then one of the Likes / Dislikes sub-tabs. If your corporation has standings with that entity it will be listed here. Once again you can right-click on your corporation and select 'Show Composition' to see the standing breakdown.

3) Use a character in a different corporation to open the Info window on your main corporation, then select the Standings tab followed by the Like By / Disliked By sub-tab. This will show the corporation's standings to various NPC entities, but you are unable to right-click to see the standing composition.

It should be noted that the first 2 options above suffer from two significant drawbacks. First, there is a know issue with the client cache which means that the information displayed on the Standings tab for both the corporation and NPC entity is incorrect. The details displayed through the Show Compositions option are, however, accurate.

The second issue is that access to a corporation's Standings tab and the display of corporation standing from an NPC entity Likes / Dislikes sub-tab is limited by corporation role. As such, some members of a corporation may not be able to see the standings while within the corporation. This seems very strange as anyone outside of the corporation can see the corporation's details by bringing up the player corporation Info panel!

Q: How are player corporation standings calculated?

A: Player corporation standings to NPC entities are calculated by taking the average standing to that entity of characters within the player corporation. Only characters who have had a standing change to the entity while a member of the corporation will have their standings included in the calculation.

Q: Which characters in my corporation are affecting the standings, and by how much?

A: When looking at your corporation standings right click on an NPC entity and select 'Show Compositions'. This will open a pop up showing the overall corporation standing with a list of the characters who's standings are being counted and their individual standings. The corporation standings displayed in the 'Show Compositions' pop-up are accurate and do not appear affected by the standings caching bug.

Q: At what rate to corporation standings change?

A: Standing change is a gradual affair with your corporation's standings recalculated each downtime. Standings move towards the average character standing at a rate of 25% of the difference between the current corporation standing and the average character standings. The formula is as follows:

New Corp Standing = Old Corp Standing + ((Average Character Standing - Old Corp Standing) / 4)

For example, if your current corporation standing to an NPC entity is 2.0 and the average character's standing to that entity is 6.0, after the first downtime standings will be recalculated as 3.0:

New Standing = 2 + ((6 - 2) / 4)
New Standing = 2 + (4 / 4)
New Standing = 2 + 1
New Standing = 3

And after the next (second) downtime the standing will be recalculated as 3.75:

New Standing = 3 + ((6 - 3) / 4)
New Standing = 3 + (3 / 4)
New Standing = 3 + 0.75
New Standing = 3.75

The 21 Day Standing Calculator is a handy tool for working this out.

Q: Are you sure those calculations are right? I've seen some different behaviour...

A: From observation it appears that when you first kick-start standings changes for a corporation you get a standing adjustment of around 43% during the first down time. This works out as a double 25% adjustment.

For example, if you create a new corporation or join a corporation with no standings and your Gallente standing is 8.0, after the first downtime following appropriate standing changes the corporation standing will be 3.5, calculated as follows:

New Standing = 0 + ((8 - 0) / 4)
New Standing = 0 + (8 / 4)
New Standing = 0 + 2
New Standing = 2

New Standing = 2 + ((8 - 2) / 4)
New Standing = 2 + (6 / 4)
New Standing = 2 + 1. 5
New Standing = 3.5

After the initial double adjustment standings will tend to the average based on the 25% rate.

Q: How are negative standings calculated?

A: The same formula is used to calculate all standings, regardless of them being positive or negative.

For example, if the corporation has a standing of +1.0 but the average player standing is -8.0 after DT the new corporation standing will be recalculated to -1.0:

New Standing = 1 + ((-8 - 0) / 4)
New Standing = 1 + (-8 / 4)
New Standing = 1 + -2
New Standing = -1

Q: When are standing changes calculated?

A: Player corporation standing are calculated at down time.

Q: My corporation's standings are not changing. I have checked after downtime and ensured appropriate missions have been run.

A: There is a known bug with the client cache where looking at your own corporation's standings does not yield correct information. Checking your standings in game through a character in another corporation will show the correct results. You can also use the Show Compositions screen to get a better idea of status.

Q: Will my personal standings be factored into a corporation's standings when I join the corp?

A: Your personal standings will only be included in the corporation's average if you have had a standings change while in the employment of the corporation. Only standings which have changed are included.

Q: Do my social skills affect corporation standings?

A: No, only a character's unadjusted standings are used.

Q: I have a high faction and / or NPC corporation standings but they are not affecting my corporation's overall standings.

A: Only characters who's standings have changed to a particular NPC entity while employed by the player corporation will have their standings included in the calculations. Only the standing to the entity will be included, for example if you have +5 standings to both the Federation Navy and Quafe and then run a Federation Navy mission, only your Navy standings will be included in the calculations. You will need to run a mission for Quafe to have those standings factored in as well. The same is true for faction standings, but beware that when you receive a faction standing change, all factions are affected (via derived standing changes) so if you want to get you +8.0 standing to Caldari factored into your corporation's standing, this will come hand-in-hand with your -5.0 Gallente standing.

Q: What happens to the corporation's standings if I leave?

A: If a player leaves a corporation, their individual standings will no longer be taken into account during the standing recalculation made during the next downtime. If the character rejoins the corporation, their standings will be taken into account even if they do not run any further missions.

Q: When I create a corporation, are my personal NPC standings inherited by the new corporation?

A: No, the new corporation will have null standings to all NPC entities. Running missions or performing other standing affecting tasks will kick-start the standings change process as described above.
